I’ve been working on Evolution or Revolution—a project diving into the stories of people who have made big (and small) career changes. Now I'm bring this work to a series of workshops to support folks questioning their own path forward.

I’ve been there. And I remember it well….

My friend quizzed me as I listed out what I did in my account management role. It was okay, but this was the dawn of the digital world, and I wanted to drive my career into the digital space. I also wanted to work somewhere that I liked the leadership.

Slowly, I pulled about three things off my list that I liked, I added another 3 things I was good at but not actively doing as much as I’d like, and finally added 2 growth areas that I wanted to learn more about.

What I ended up with didn’t look like a job, really. Or at least not a job I could name.

But my friend persisted - “take this list, email folks you know that might help you out and ask them what they think this role might be?”

Within a few moments, someone wrote back and said, “Oh, you’re a producer.”

And that, my friends, is how I started the next 20 year stint of my career.

It’s a wild time with so many fast changes in the world around us. So often, I’m working with clients who are in the middle of some kind of transition. Either looking for a new role, getting oriented after a promotion or re-org, or maybe trying to decide what’s next.

Our world is evolving pretty quickly. We will have multiple jobs and most people will change industries or specialties more than once. If you connect the dots to what’s happening today, it can feel scary. But how do you navigate these changes?
